...and a new school room!
It's a time for slime galore and "thinking putty," which has many uses:
Piggy still begs regularly by squeaking and chewing on her cage...
The simple things of daily life are joyful!
School has been full of Robinson Crusoe, Bible verses, daily grammar, spelling practice, Benjamin Franklin, Tennyson poems, Rubens paintings, Latin translation, and narration, narration, narration!
Here is something I had tucked away, that has proven helpful for reinforcing multiplication facts:
Flash cards and even computer games can become monotonous practice. This old game was a Goodwill find from my mom, and has sat on the shelf for "when we're ready." I had forgotten about it, and yesterday it provided refreshment for a weary subject! Rather than playing Bingo-style, I have them fill up the whole sheet. I decided to throw in lots of Spanish number practice by having them say the equations and answers in Spanish. I wrote the Spanish number names by tens on our dry-erase board to help the girls out. It added life to math as well as foreign language, two subjects that usually don't go together!
Some quotes from Karen Andreola's winter 1992 Parent's Review:
"There are two ways of reading books; one is getting them up with a view to reproduction for examination purposes, and the other is enjoying them."
"Most children crave knowledge until it is schooled out of them with textbooks."
Next: Advent!
